ROS is receiving a donation of 10-20 ft. logs from Southern California Edison (SCE) that they were previously removing from the mountain due to the Creek Fire.
Rebuild Our Sierra saw a mutually beneficial opportunity and approached SCE management about keeping this natural resource in our community. Thanks to this partnership, we are able to keep these logs here in Shaver on one of our committee member's properties.
We expect as many as 2000 logs.
Southern California Edison (SCE) is the main sponsors of this effort.
We will be milling logs of sufficient size into non-graded lumber for Creek Fire survivors to use for outbuildings and sheds. We are putting Shed Packages together that include lumber, roofing, screws, hinges, locks, plans and doorknobs (complete supply list coming).
While we are able to provide the raw materials to the Creek Fire survivor if they’d like to build the shed themselves, we also have agreements with a few Fresno County schools (Fresno City College, Duncan Polytechnic) who have woodshop programs and they will be building sheds for families who cannot or do not want to build them on their own.
For the lumber not appropriate for milling, ROS will cut it into firewood to be donated to Creek Fire survivors or sold to fund other Creek Fire rebuild projects
